Nazri: No protection under Whistleblower Act for Datuk ‘T’
KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 — The Datuk “T” trio who exposed the video recording of sex acts involving a man similar to an opposition leader will not be protected under the Whistleblower Act.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz (picture) told the Dewan Rakyat they might be protected under the Witness Protection Act if there was a case to answer.
“The Act (Whistleblower Act) becomes irrelevant when a person discloses information to the public. Anyone who goes to the press can’t be protected. What I said as ‘possibility’ no longer applies,” he said in winding up the debate on the Prime Minister’s Department’s Supplementary Supply Bill (2010) 2011 today.
Yesterday, Nazri said the Datuk “T” trio of Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik, Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and Datuk Shuib Lazim would be protected under the two Acts if there was a case.
He said the government did not interfere in the investigation as alleged by the opposition.
On calls to set up a royal commission of inquiry, the minister said it would only be decided after the investigation was completed.
“The government is not afraid to form a royal commission of inquiry as we also want to know as it is alleged that we are involved,” he said in reply to a question by Wee Choo Keong (Independent-Wangsa Maju).
The Dewan session continues tomorrow. — Bernama
