Commission of Inquiry is a Proof of Najib’s Transparency

We have never seen a Commission of Inquiry being set up just to investigate a cause of death in order to fulfill the demand and dissatisfaction of certain parties over the result of an inquest. The setting up of a Commission of Inquiry for Teoh Beng Hock is a proof of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s transparency, though the case is being overly politicized, thus rejects the idea of the government’s involvement in any way.

If it is true that the government was involved as claimed by the oppositions, not only that the Commission of Inquiry will not be set up, but most probably there wouldn’t even be any investigation or inquest at all in the first place. Worse still, Beng Hock might have vanished into thin air in a poof and nobody would know a thing!

Logically, should MACC had something to do with his death, they would not have done it at their own office. And should the government is much too powerful to be able to close or manipulate cases that could discredit the opposition in some way eg. opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Altantuya’s cases, why would the government leave the door open wide for the opposition to policitize this one? Why not just use the power to shut the case as well as people’s mouth altogether?

Obviously, ‘killing’ and then politicizing Beng Hock’s death does not bring any good to the government. The only one getting all the benefits from the tragedy is none other but the oppositions.

We agree and we honor Najib’s decision to seek justice following the open result of the inquest, but we hope that there will be no attempt by certain parties to misuse his sincerity to make a fool of the government in future.

We have to remember that by overly entertaining the oppositions in order to appear transparent and honest, we might risk being seen as stooping down low to their level that is dealing with never-ending politicking and issues. Apart from that, the government too, might be seen as weak and easily fooled.

However, in view that those involved in Beng Hock’s case were ‘afraid’ to make a decision, it is most wisely for Najib to take up the matter to a higher level.

Hopefully, those appointed in the Commission of Inquiry are as sincere and as honest as Najib is in terms of seeking justice. At the same time, they must also be real professionals to be able to disregard their political views.

It’s just that we are worried should the Commission of Inquiry too, is ‘afraid’ to make decisions then, where else should the case be referred to?

What certain is that, should the result of their investigation does not tally with the opposition’s interest, be assured that there will be cries of dissatisfaction. And there will surely be accusations and allegations that the government is involved in any way or every way. We all know that Beng Hock wouldn’t be at the MACC’s office if not for the opposition’s leaders being investigated for corruption. Therefore just be ready for more obnoxious politicking by the oppositions.

In the end, the question remains: how do we close the case once and for all?
