Driver longs for runaway Viet wife and son
KUALA LUMPUR: A lorry driver is pining for his son who was taken away by his Vietnamese wife more than a month ago.
Lim B, 38, said his wife of three years went back to her hometown near Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the dumpling festival on June 14, taking along their two-year-old son.
Both were supposed to return home on July 13, but his wife called him a day later to inform him that she was not coming back.
"She plans to remain in Vietnam with our son," he said, adding that all he wanted was for them to come home.
Lim said he was worried about his son and wanted the relevant authorities to help bring the boy home.
Left in a quandary: Lim B (left) and Chong holding pictures of the former's wife and son at the MCA Public Services and Complaints Department in Kuala Lumpur.
Speaking at the MCA Public Services and Complaints Department here, Lim said he did not understand why his wife suddenly decided not to come home.
"Our marriage was a happy one, we never quarrelled. I love her so much … I fell in love with her the moment I saw her in 2009," he said, adding that their marriage was arranged through a matchmaker.
Lim said his wife had also requested for money while she was in Vietnam, supposedly to pay for their son's medical expenses.
"Now, she doesn't want to return. She also told me not to contact her any more. Worse, she did not even tell me the reason for her refusal to come home," said Lim.
Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong said he had met with the matchmaker to help bring the couple together but did not get much co-operation.
"We will also inform the Vietnam Embassy in Malaysia over the matter," he said.
Chong revealed that his department had received 21 similar cases involving foreign spouses who had left the country and refused to come home since last year.
"Of the total, 10 involved local men who had married Vietnamese women who returned to their home country, taking along their children who are Malaysian citizens."
