Ulama group free to speak out in Umno - New Straits Times
Umno Young Ulama secretariat committee chairman Fathul Bari Mat Jahaya said the ulama voice seems to be marginalised as it does not hold posts in the party.
Do we need posts to uplift Islam? It is a problem for ulamas if posts and power make them feel not marginalised. We are allowed to speak, Subhanallah," he told Bernama here. Fathul Bari said local television and radio stations also asked for views of Umno Young Ulama and that they will continue to make an impact and preach. He said the knowledge approach is inline with the secretariat's name and aim to assist the government and Umno.
"We can't just fight based on the party's name, become emotional and shout. With the knowledge (conveyed) the person (people) will understand. "We speak with facts and have the answers. Sadly, there are parties that use religion for political gain.
"Umno young ulamas have never been stopped from giving views on current issues like hudud law, use of the word Allah, apostasy and unnatural sex." Fathul Bari said the entry of 40 young ulamas into Umno have been positively received in the party.
"Alhamdullillah, we have been invited to give views in Perlis, Penang, Terengganu and many other places, including Kuala Lumpur. "We need access to the states and state governments. Recently we were invited for a discourse with PAS," he added.
Only 10 to 15 members of the secretariat are active in Kuala Lumpur while the others are in the states. On June 25, 40 young ulamas including Fathul Bari joined Umno in a ceremony attended by Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. -- Bernama
