Pakatan Rakyat has failed the Indian community
Press statement by MCA Secretary General Dato' Seri Kong Cho Ha
Pakatan Rakyat has failed the Indian community
Amnesiac DAP, PKR and PAS forget that the Indian community had supported the Opposition during the 12th general elections.
An article in The Star (29 Nov '11) had reported that Taiping Member of Parliament Nga Kor Ming had allegedly called Perak Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir as a "'black metal' person." If the allegation is accurate, then Perak DAP warrants condemnation as racist stereotypes should not even permeate in our country where the Barisan Nasional government is doing its best to promote the 1Malaysia concept of unity.
It comes as startling that my fellow Parliamentarians from Ipoh Barat, Klang and Subang i.e. DAP's M. Kulasegaran and Charles Santiago or PKR's Sivarasa respectively do not seem brave enough to chastise Nga's chauvinist outburst.
Their muted response only goes to show that, if even within DAP and PKR, their Indian elected representatives dare not reprimand Nga's racist slur, how will they be able to fend for the rights of the Indian community or people who do not have fair complexion at large?
Moreover, it further indicates that DAP is dominated by just a few honchos and other office bearers have no say.
The public has already witnessed how in Puchong, the Selangor exco Teresa Kok wedged the Chinese and Indian communities to have ill feelings against each other when she allotted federal land (not state land) for SJKT Castlefield, despite the federal government having alienated that federal land for SJKC Kheng Chee years earlier.
Not only are BN's outreach to the Indian community via 1Malaysia coupled with DAP's reneged promises for example, its failure to protect the traditional Indian village of Kampung Buah Pala in Penang from demolition, the cause for the Indian community's return to BN, DAP's racial profiling reinforce revived backing for BN.
As an after thought, could such racist identification be the reason for former DAP member and current state assemblyman for Malim Nawar Keshvinder Singh to flee DAP and turn independent?
