Najib abused public funds for youth gathering, says PKR

May 30, 2011
KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 PKR Youth accused today the prime minister of abusing public funds and exploiting the Million Youths Assembly in Putrajaya last Saturday to defend the ruling Barisan Nasionals (BN) narrow political agenda. Its information chief Lee Khai Loon said Datuk Seri Najib Razak had used the World Youth Day celebration to attack the opposition, adding the incident showed the PM did not understand Putrajayas function as the national administrative capital. In the context of a democratic country, Putrajaya is owned by Malaysian citizens and is the administrative centre of the government chosen during elections. Putrajaya is not the absolute property of any political party, Lee said in a statement today in reply to Najibs rallying cry to youths during the event.Najib had told an 8,000-strong crowd that turned up in the federal territory that if in Egypt one million youths gathered in Tahrir Square to change that countrys leadership... in Malaysia, one million youths gathered to defend Putrajaya. As Prime Minister, Najib Razak should be a role model to youths instead of calling them to defend Putrajaya, Lee said.He urged the PM to stop misusing national institutions such as the police, media, civil force and NGOs to extend the BNs rule. The PKR man said the federal government should support the July 9 public assembly for a free and fair election instead. He also called on youths to become more active in politics and think critically as the way forward for the nation to have a healthy two-party system and prevent a monopoly of power-hungry political parties.
