Stop wearing two hats Pakatan Rakyat leaders urged to stand in one seat only - star.com.my

GEORGE TOWN: Pakatan Rakyat leaders should choose to either contest in a state or parliamentary seat not become candidates in both, said Barisan Nasional Youth leaders here.

This would help the prospective representatives if they win the elections to focus on the peoples needs, they added, considering that some Pakatan leaders also hold various party posts.

Citing an example, they said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is both Air Putih state assemblyman and Bagan MP. He is also DAP secretary-general.

Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy is Prai assemblyman and Batu Kawan MP while state executive councillor Chow Kon Yeow is both Padang Kota state rep and Tanjung MP.

Governing a state like Penang requires their full attention in view of the many issues in the state.

So, they should choose either to defend their state or parliamentary seat, said Penang MCA Youth head Eng Hiap Boon.

Eng said Lim, as the chief minister, should be selective about the seat he wants in Penang.

State Umno Youth deputy head Norman Zahalan claimed DAP leaders contested in both parliament and state seats to play it safe.

Penang Gerakan Youth committee member Dr Thor Teong Ghee said that Lim should permit younger leaders in the DAP to contest in the election as it is no longer just a small political party.

The people have given the DAP a chance to govern.

It is not an Opposition party out to make up the numbers any more.

So, the party should allow others to also contest.

It is servicing the constit! uents wh ich counts, not the number of posts held, he said.
