Pakatan Rakyat must not use gag orders as an easy way out to skirt around problems

MCA HQ, 27 Sept When an ostrich buries its head in the ground, it is its way of hiding away from something which causes it discomfort.

Pakatan rakyats handling of the entire hudud law controversy can be likened to the proverbial ostrich with its head stuck in the ground. This is epitomized with the three Pakatan Secretary General instructing their classic gag order syndrome in an effort to contain the fallout after PAS adamancy on hududs enforcement in Kelantan and eventually to establish the Islamic criminal code at the federal level, as opposed to DAPs chairman Karpal Singh is the lone ranger to openly condemn PAS.

Having deliberated at length on the implications of hudud jurisprudence on Malaysias citizens in particular non-Muslims, the MCA Central Committee after its meeting was quick to call the bluff of the Pakatan-ordered gag order.

Wither freedom of information

Pakatan always emphasizes transparency, accountability, freedom of information and democracy. But in the end, when they cannot solve the problem, they will have a gag order, MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek informed reporters after chairing the last MCA Central Committee meeting prior to our partys Annual General Assembly scheduled over this weekend, 1~2 October 2011.

While acknowledging that it the right of Pakatan Rakyat parties to issue a gag order on its members, Soi Lek raised the question of a gag order becoming a dispute as to whether it can solve problems as the problem continues to remain and holds no signs of going away.

Pakatan Rakyat must clearly make their stand known as to whether they will implement hudud laws. They cannot keep gag order until the general elections and then lift the gag order and then say they want to implement hudud law.

Every time there is a problem, there is a gag o! rder. Wi th the gag order, the rakyat does not know. We are talking not from an angle of a politician, but from the angle of a citizen, alerted Soi Lek in consideration of probable lasting repercussions on the rakyat who are kept in the dark by Pakatan Rakyat.

The party chief had cited the gag order issued by the Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Ibrahim on the Selangor EXCO pending a report on the JAIS raid against the Damansara Utama Methodist Church The JAIS report was supposed to be ready beforer Hari Raya but we will soon celebrate Deepavali and still the report is not out yet, highlighted Soi Lek. Given allegations that the church was proselytizing Muslims, Soi Lek pointed out that the gag order is still in place but the issue is prolonged. We rakyat want to know if there is a move to convert.

BN will not implement hudud

The party President also thanked our Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak who openly said that time is not suitable, and as Malaysia is a multiracial country, Barisan Nasional will not implement hudud laws.

He advised Pakatan Rakyat do not take the easy way out to solve problem by a gag order because people are affected while stressing that BN practises genuine democracy.

On a lighter note on the issuance of the gag order, Soi Lek quipped that if like this, my work as MCA President is easy.
