UPM annuls victory of 11 Pro-M candidates

However, a meeting is underway between five of the 11 winners and the deputy vice-chancellor.

About 100 pro-Mahasiswa (pro-M) students are camping out in front of the UPM administration building to protest the mass annulment of the victory of 11 of its candidates in Monday's campus polls.

According to spokesperson Ahmad Shukri Kamaruddin, the 11 received phone calls about 9pm yesterday. Later, they received an official letter confirming that the results had been annulled.

"The letter was signed by UPM student affairs department disciplinary unit head Noraihan Nordin" said Ahmad Shukri.

The 11 had until 10am today to appeal, though they will have to pay RM100 each to do so.

NONEThe pro-M group then organised the protest, which has been going on since 10pm yesterday. No untoward incident has been reported to date.

The protesters took their grievances to the deputy vice-chancellor as soon as he arrived at his office this morning.

A meeting is currently in progress with five of the affected candidates.

"We have also contacted Deputy Higher Education Minister Saifuddin Abdullah about the matter. He expressed regret that this has happened and will contact the university to look into the matter," said Ahmad Shukri.
