Khalid promises full disclosure of Selangor GLCs financial reports

February 26, 2011
SHAH ALAM, Feb 26 Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim (pic) said today that all financial reports of state GLCs (Government Linked Companies) would be tabled at the next state assembly meeting in March.Khalid told reporters that the state-owned companies have been adhering to strict accounting procedures as practised in the private sector. We publish the reports every year and they must be prepared six months after the end of financial year, said Khalid. He was responding to calls by Selangor Umno for the newly-appointed State Secretary Datuk Khusrin Munawi to scrutinise the financial management of the state GLCs.The state Umno information chief Abdul Shukor Idrus had reportedly claimed that the Selangor GLCs have not been transparent and alleged that the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) state government has incurred questionable expenses.Abdul Shukor also said that the state government should not claim credit for the approved investment worth of RM5.6 billion from January to August last year, saying that is was due to the federal governments success in restoring investor confidence. The Kuang assemblyman also challenged Khalid to make public the state GLCs assets and liabilities for the past three years since PR began governing Selangor. We will present them to the Dewan. Perhaps he doesnt know how to read the accounts that is why this issue was raised, said Khalid. He added that the state GLCs have been better managed since 2008 when PR took over the government. We will also apply the same standard as when I was in PNB, said Khalid referring to Malaysias biggest fund management company which he used to lead.
