February 28, 2011
JASIN, Feb 28 Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam yesterday labelled Pakatan Rakyat (PR) hypocrites for its claim that Barisan Nasionals (BN) candidate was chosen because of his family ties.Roslan Ahmads late father, Datuk Ahmad Ithin, was a former assemblyman for Sungai Rambai which was later delineated into the Merlimau seat while his uncle, Datuk Seri Abu Zahar Ithnin, was also the states former chief minister.Mohd Ali reiterated that Roslan candidacy was based on merit and pointed to PRs family dynasties. We can see Anwar Ibrahim, he is a member of parliament. His wife (Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) was a member of parliament. His daughter (Nurul Izzah Anwar) is a member of parliament. If we look at Karpal Singh? He is a member of parliament. His son (Gobind Singh Deo) is also a member of parliament.Lim Kit Siang is worse. He is a member of parliament. His son (Lim Guan Eng) is a member of parliament and a state legislator. His in-law, Betty (Chew Gek Cheng), is also a state legislator, he said during a ceramah at Kampung Chin Chin last night.Mohd Ali stressed that it was unfair if Roslan was not given the candidacy because of his family background. The Merlimau by-election was called following the death of Datuk Mohamad Hidhir Abu Hassan on January 20.The Election Commission (EC) has set March 6 for polling.
