Transport Minister warns of tough action against bus driver, owner
LUMUT, Oct 30 – Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha today warned of drastic action against the owner and driver of the bus which crashed in Genting Highlands last night resulting in the deaths of seven passengers.
He said the tough action was warranted because the driver did not have a driving licence and was still engaged by the company.
Besides prosecution, which could result in a fine or jail sentence, the authorities could revoke the permit of the bus company, he told reporters after presenting Deepavali aid to the Pundut Vision School, here.
Kong said drastic action must be taken to prevent similar incidents as well as to restore the people’s confidence in public transportation.
He also said that the ministry would propose to the Cabinet for CCTV monitoring of accident-prone stretches of road, and serious penalties to be imposed on offenders. – Bernama
