Beng Hock’s brother-in-law claims assault in Galas campaign
He had arrived in Gua Musang yesterday with Teoh’s sister Teoh Lee Lan and six other members of Malaysians for Beng Hock to lobby for the formation of a royal commission of enquiry to investigate the death of the political secretary to Selangor Executive Councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah.
The group was trying to approach Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk Heng Seai Kie when Soh was allegedly assaulted.
“When she arrived, she ignored us and continued the talk. So we waited for 40 minutes for her to finish her speech,” said the group’s spokesman Ng Yap Hwa last night.
Ng said they chose to come to Galas as it was easier for them to meet with ministers and elected representatives to lobby for support.
“We asked for five minutes when she was leaving, but she remained silent and MCA supporters were blocking us,” he told The Malaysian Insider.
Soh lodged a report at the Gua Musang police district headquarters soon after the incident and later went to hospital for treatment.
“I tried approaching YB Heng to lobby for her support for the formation of a Royal Commission of Enquiry to investigate the death of Teoh Beng Hock and R. Gunasegaran,” said Soh in his report referring to a detainee who died in custody.
“When YB Heng was leaving the rally, MCA supporters tried to stop me from approaching YB Heng,” he added.
Soh claimed that the assault had caused injury on his right knee.
“A Chinese man in his 50s wearing white T-shirt pushed me hard causing me to fall on the floor. I was injured and my right knee was bleeding,” said Soh.
The 30-year-old Teoh was found dead on the 5th floor of Plaza Masalam last year after he was interrogated overnight in connection with suspected abuse of state funds by Selangor lawmakers. An inquest into his death will resume on November 4.
