More jobs for Bumiputera contractors in Penang
GEORGE TOWN, Oct 30 – Bumiputera contractors in Penang have the chance to win RM175 million worth of contract works through the Second Penang Bridge project and upgrading of the Bayan Lepas International Airport (BLIA).
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB) had agreed to offer RM100 million worth ofcontract jobs to Bumiputera contractors, while Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) agreed to give 30 per cent of the RM250 million airport upgrading project works to them.
Nor Mohamed, who is chairman of the Federal Government Action Council for Penang, had also asked that priority be given to Bumiputera contractors.
“Both the projects are going on as scheduled,” he told reporters after attending a briefing on the two projects, here, today.
Nor Mohamed said the 23.5km Second Penang Bridge linking Batu Maung on the island and Batu Kawan on the mainland would cost about RM4.5 billion to build and would be ready in November 2013.
He said the first phase of the BLIA upgrading project was expected to be completed in January 2012.
The first phase includes the setting up of more Immigration counters, enlarging the departure hall and allocating more parking space. – Bernama
