PAS Now Attacking Tengku Razaleigh
Barisan Nasional has avoided personal attacks against PAS leaders, especially its spiritual leader and Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat in the Galas by-election, UMNO information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan said.
PAS, too, had earlier declared that it would maintain decorum when it comes to Gua Musang member of parliament Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.
Ahmad told a press conference at the BN operations centre in Bukit Cekati that Pas had since broken its promise and was now implicating Tengku Razaleigh in several issues.
Ahmad said the BN election machinery would explain various national issues raised by the opposition in their ceramah here, including the Warisan Merdeka Tower project proposed by Permodalan Nasional Bhd.
"We will explain to the voters that the project does not involve government funds. It will bring benefits to the country and the people."
To date, Abdul Aziz Yusoff, the BN candidate, said he had met 50 per cent of the voters in Galas and most of them had complained about the Pas state government's failure to solve the land title issue and provide affordable homes.
Pas has denied it was bribing outstation voters by offering up to RM250 for every voter residing elsewhere to return to cast his or her ballot in the by-election on Thursday.
The party's national election director, Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman, said the amount was to cover their travelling expenses.
"We will only pay after they have cast their votes. This is not a bribe as we only want to get more people to vote."
He said the party had identified 1,557 Galas voters living outside the constituency.
"Those living in Johor will get RM250 and for Kuala Lumpur residents, RM200," he said at the Pas operations centre here.
