Galas postal voters to vote tomorrow and on Monday

GUA MUSANG, Oct 30 – The 177 postal voters in the Galas state by-election will cast their ballots tomorrow and on Monday, Election Commission (EC) Deputy Secretary Datuk Noordin Che Ngah said today.

Fifty of them were EC workers engaged in the by-election and they would vote tomorrow at the Gua Musang Land and District Office operations room here, he said.

The 127 others were policemen on duty during the by-election, and they would vote on Monday at the Gua Musang district police headquarters, he told reporters after distributing the postal ballots to the two groups at the Gua Musang Land and District Office operations room, here.

The postal voting would be held from 9am to 5pm on both days, he said.

Noordin said the postal ballots would be counted together with the ballots for normal voting after the polling stations closed at 5pm on Nov ember 4.

“All the postal ballots will be kept in the strong room at the Gua Musang Land and District operations room, which will be under tight police security,” he said.

The by-election is a straight fight between Abdul Aziz Yusoff, 49, of the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Dr Zulkefli Mohamed, 44, of PAS, necessitated by the death of the assemblyman, Che Hashim Sulaima (rpt) Sulaima of PAS, on September 27.

Noordin also said that the election campaign, into its fifth day today, was going on smoothly save for minor incidents such as Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and DAP putting up their flags again after the EC monitoring team had brought them down.

On the allegation by PAS of the existence of phantom voters in the by-election, he said there was no such thing. – Bernama
