Najib named the best Salesman !

Najib the diplomat par excellence — Tay Tian Yan

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak may temporary forget about those annoying domestic problems and revel in his diplomatic achievements.

Najib has done his best in diplomacy so far, improving the relations with China and broken the deadlock with Singapore. Today, he has also made a breakthrough in the US.

Najib went to the US two days ago and met President Barack Obama. It was the second meeting between the two leaders in less than six month.

All leaders in the world want to meet the US President and the meetings will be recorded as a significant agenda in their terms of office. But not every leader has the opportunity to meet the US President.

For example, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is certainly among the leaders who has criticised the US president most aggressively, probably just after former Cuba President Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz.

The foreign policy of Mahathir’s administration and his rash speeches had made the US think that Malaysia was a non-friendly country. To enhance the country’s status and popularity in the Muslim world, he always ridiculed and attacked the US in speeches.

Also, Dr Mahathir was unhappy with the US friendliness to alternative coalition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Dr Mahathir seemed to have no interest, perhaps more precisely, opportunity, to enter the White House or Camp David, besides official functions like Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to meet the US President, from Ronald Wilson Reagan, George H.W. Bush Sr, Bill Clinton to George W. Bush Jr.

People thought that he did not care about such meetings. But Dr Mahathir did make a special arrangement to meet George W. Bush before he stepped down.

Later, rumours said that the meeting was arranged by US political lobbyists. Of course, the lobbyists charge fees for their services.

The example shows how important and glorious is to meet the US president, even for Dr Mahathir.

However, it is a different matter whether the meeting brings any results.

After Najib took the office, he changed the way and started to prioritise pragmatic diplomacy while casting ideology aside.

He has visited the US twice and at least, he has established firmly an attitude, a stand and a breakthrough.

In terms of attitude, he extended goodwill to let the US understand that Malaysia is not against the US, but is actively enhancing the bilateral relations with the US.

In terms of stand, Najib stressed that Malaysia is a moderate Muslim-majority nation and it can help improve the relationship between the US and the Muslim world, which can help the global strategy of the US.

It is a breakthrough when the world-famous Johns Hopkins University offers to set up a medical school and hospital in Malaysia.

The Johns Hopkins University is not an ordinary university but a world-renowned teaching and research medical institution. About 30 Nobel Prize winners graduated from it.

It is extraordinarily boost for the government policy of developing medical technology and education.

Also, it will enhance the confidence of enterprises and multinational companies of the US. It is an incentive for the Malaysia economic transformation.

Najib’s foreign policy is set to enhance relations with China and the US. We cannot ignore China as its influences in politics and economy are growing stronger and thus, we can only share benefits with it. As for the US, it is still a superpower enjoying a very important status in Southeast Asia, and it is still a very important leader of the world economy.

The flexible and pragmatic foreign policy has brought Malaysia a new status and opportunities. — mysinchew.com

funny animal photos-how YOU dewwin?

Everyone knows a monkey like this monkey. You’re at a party, making eyes at a pretty redhead, heading to the bar to grab one more margarita before you start chatting her up about Bataille’s idea of love… and then he saunters over like a G, all perpetual cool and drop-dead gorgeous game face, and he steals your woman with some cliché line about picking bugs out of her beautiful locks.

But you know what they say: Don’t hate the monkey, hate the game.
