Statement by MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek on Pakatan Rakyat’s shadow budget

Pakatan Rakyat should look at their backyard first before trying to hoodwink the rakyat with its shadow budget.

They have not fulfilled many of its pledges made and yet it is making more promises without taking into consideration how to face the current global economic challenges.

Pakatan Rakyat has not fulfilled most of their last General Election promises of child care allowance and that for single mothers and children going to kindergarten in the respective states they have governed, etc.

If Pakatan Rakyat is serious about non-raced-based policies, they should first do away the housing quota for Bumiputra in the four Pakatan Rakyat-led states, Kedah under its leadership has increased the housing quota tremendously.

Hence, the opposition should not continue to con the rakyat.

Pakatan Rakyat should stop making a mockery of its dreamy budget which is aimed at building castle in the skies.

Their budget merely specifies expenditure without looking into how they propose to derive earnings to bolster revenue.

They are able to promise anything under the sky without delivering. This is because they are aware that they need not have to fulfill them eventually.

Their shadow Budget appears to have a lot of populist policies but is preposterous without a quantified amount. It is devised to fish for votes.

Like the proposed child care allowance of RM1,000 a year for children aged 12 or less, or families earning less than RM1,000 a month, the amount is not quantified.

How can you have a budget when the amount is unquantified.

The budget also did not take into consideration the external factor which will negatively affect our trade, exports and manufacturing sector. The most crucial question is how to maintain economic growth 5.3% for 2013 is sadly lacking in any detail.

So when Pakatan Rakyat makes whatever promises, the rakyat should be mindful that it is meant only to fish votes and not to be fulfilled.

Their proposal to have a minimum wage of RM1,110 will have far reaching consequences to the Small and Medium industry. It will drive them to bankruptcy.

Their alternative Budget proposed a national housing board to build 100,000 affordable housing units but Pakatan Rakyat's track record in building low cost houses is a disappointment both Penang and Selangor State Government had only started building low-cost houses this year.

There are 100,000 families with income of less than RM7,000 still waiting for affordable homes of less than RM400,000 in Penang, unfortunately affordable houses in Penang island are very limited since the state under Pakatan Rakyat is meant only for the rich.

I would suggest that the Pakatan Rakyat government in Penang to start fulfilling the its promises before before boasting of doing bigger things for the nation.

They should stop biting more than they can chew. Pakatan Rakyat populist policy would bankrupt the nation.
