Chua: Budget 2013 benefits young, middle-aged and seniors
PETALING JAYA: Budget 2013 caters to every sector of the economy and will benefit the young, the middle-aged and senior citizens, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
Describing it as a "wide-ranging" and "well-thought" budget, he said the forecast of 4.5% to 5% growth was commendable in view of the strong economic headwinds against Malaysia.
To promote prudent spending, the Government should seriously look into reducing its expenditure and leakages. - Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
"While there is the RM10bil development scheme for small and medium-sized enterprises, more could be done to help them cope with the implementation of minimum wage next year," he said, welcoming the new loan facility and group insurance scheme for petty traders.
"To promote prudent spending, the Government should seriously look into reducing its expenditure and leakages.
"The rationalisation of subsidies and broad-based tax structures should also be re-looked into so that the people will not be burdened by inflation," he said in a statement yesterday.
Dr Chua said the RM500mil special allocation to enhance teaching skills in core subjects such as English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mathematics and Science was timely and underlined the Government's commitment to enhance the future workforce.
"MCA would like to thank the Prime Minister for providing another RM100mil for Chinese primary schools. This shows the continued recognition of Chinese education in the country," he said.
He said the Prime Minister had made the right move in targeting the youths, especially on soft skills training to increase their employment ability, the smartphone rebate and the RM50mil Young Entrepreneurs Fund.
The MCA, added Dr Chua, hoped that the Government's commitment to build 123,000 units of affordable houses would also be met while the second round of the People's 1Malaysia Assistance scheme (BR1M) was what the party had been fighting for.
Dr Chua said the Prime Minister had been very generous with the bonuses for the civil servants.
"It is hoped that this will help spur them to greater productivity and friendlier service," he added.
