Malaysian aid ship still unable to berth at Egyptian port
May 31, 2011 KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 The Malaysian aid ship to Gaza, the MV Finch, is still unable to berth at the Egyptian port of El-Arish.This is despite the agreement between the Malaysian and Egypian governments on May 16 that the humanitarian aid ship, MV Finch, could berth at the El-Arish Port.Matthias Chang, the mission leader on board the aid ship said in an e-mail from the vessel today that the Egyptian government had yet to allow the ship to berth.Chang said since May 17, the aid ship had been turned into a prison ship for all intents and purposes.The humanitarian aid team consists of a crew of five comprising three Malaysians and two Indians, and seven activists made up of four Malaysians, two Irish and one Canadian.The aid ship initiative was undertaken by the Perdana Global Peace Foundation, an NGO founded by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
