Call for tax reduction

PETALING JAYA: Tax reductions and Government intervention are among the proposals forwarded by various stakeholders for the Budget 2012.

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai said these suggestions were raised during consultation sessions which the ministry held with industries, non-governmental organisations and interested parties..

The ministry is planning to call industries and stakeholders, particularly those involved in the National Key Economic Areas for a second round of discussion, he said after launching the rakyat health project at the Medan Cahaya Flats in Taman Medan here.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will table the Budget 2012 in Parliament on Oct 7.

Lim said the Government wants industries to double their efforts and be more aggressive in helping to push the economy to the next level.

He added that the Government would have to consider existing policies and trade agreements which Malaysia was a signatory to before considering the requests from stakeholders.

Earlier in his speech, Lim who is Selangor MCA chief, urged the people to choose an experienced Go-vernment which could look after their welfare and interest.

For the past three over years since Pakatan Rakyat has ruled the state, it has not built any affordable homes for the people nor has it provided facilities for the common use of flat dwellers, he said.

Lim, who was the former Petaling Jaya Selatan MP, said that 6,000 units of low-cost houses were built in the constituency prior to 2008.
