SHAH ALAM, April 29 The Selangor assembly Rights and Privileges Committee said today Port Klang assemblyman Badrul Hisham Abdullah is not guilty of being in contempt of the state assembly but his lawyer is.The committee said Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun failed to attend todays hearing despite being given notice and recommended a RM20,000 fine. The panel met today to discuss a letter sent by Badrul Hisham (picture) and Hafarizam to Speaker Datuk Teng Chang Khim on March 29 which contained improper and threatening language. The chairman of the three-man committee, M. Manoharan, said its findings would be put before the assembly for a decision.According to Bernama Online, the Kota Alam Shah assemblyman said the panel decided unanimously that Badrul Hisham was innocent after his explanation. After hearing Badruls explanation and that of another witness, the committee found that he was not guilty and agreed to drop the summons for him to attend the hearing today, he told reporters. The letter sent by Badrul Hisham and Hafarizam related to High Court judge Datuk Zelah Yusofs decision on February 18 ordering Teng to settle RM40,000 in costs for declaring the Port Klang seat vacant.Teng had declared the vacancy on January 16 on the basis that Badrul Hisham had failed to attend the assembly for six months without good reason.Hafarizam had said on April 21 that his law firm received the RM40,000 in costs from Tengs counsel Tommy Thomas. He also obtained an injunction from the High Court today to block the panels hearing today but Manoharan said he was only aware of it after the hearing was concluded.Teng also said that he was unhappy with the court decision and accused Hafarizam of failing to inform him of his application for the injunction. He said he will discuss with his lawyer before taking any further action. The other two members of the committee are Subang assemblymen Han! nah Yeoh Tseow Suan and Bangi assemblyman Dr Shafie Abu Bakar.
