Man still wants fight with CM
GEORGE TOWN: State police have warned Mohamed Ghani Abd Jiman not to take the law into his own hands but the Komtar Merchants’ Association deputy president is not backing off from his challenge to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for a fist-fight.
“I may be shorter and lighter than Lim but I’m not afraid to take him on. I don’t mind when or where, and I’m sure I can take him down. He can choose any kind of fight he wants – whether it’s tomoi, boxing or wrestling.
“If Lim declines a physical fight, I am open to having a debate with him,” said the 44-year-old at a press conference yesterday.
Mohamed Ghani, who is about 10cm shorter than Lim but looks slightly stouter, said he was not afraid if Lim accepted his challenge.
He took part in boxing competitions some 20 years ago.
He said he had yet to receive a single call from Lim’s office.
“I’m not a politician but a businessman. All I’m asking is for Lim to step forward to settle the matter once and for all,” he said.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Ayub Yaakob has warned Mohamed Ghani not to take the law into his own hands.
“People should learn to be patient and rational. He has already made a police report so he should not create any more problems,” he said.
“People talk about Ramadan but do they have the spirit of Ramadan? Do they practise what they believe in? What they portray in real life may be different from what they say. I advise them to do some soul-searching.”
In an earlier report, Mohamed Ghani challenged Lim to a fist-fight, alleging that the DAP leader had defamed him.
Claiming the state leader had accused him of embezzlement during a North-East Village Development and Security Committee meeting in Komtar on Wednesday, Mohamed Ghani said he was willing to fight Lim if the latter could provide a venue.
Lim, who will celebrate his 50th birthday in December, could not be contacted for comments.
Wanita DAP chief Chong Eng said Mohamed Ghani should iron out his problems through discussions.
“I’m sure the state government would like to resolve the matter amicably. It’s not necessary for any physical reaction,” she said.
