PKFZ project: Trio’s hearing postponed to Nov 8

September 30, 2010 SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — The hearing of three men charged with making false claims amounting to millions of ringgit in the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) project has been postponed to November 8. Sessions Court judge Asmadi Hussin made the decision when allowing an application by counsel V. Sithambaram who said that he received 101 extra documents on Monday. Sithambaram, who is representing Bernard Tan Seng Swee of BTA Architect, said he needed time to study the documents as they were technical in nature. BTA Architect was the consultant for the PKFZ project. Counsel Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, for Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd (KDSB) chief operating officer Steven Abok, said he too received the documents on Monday and needed time to study them. Dzulkifli Ahmad, head of the Forfeiture of Property Unit, Prosecution Division, Attorney-General’s Chambers, did not oppose the application. He said the extra documents would avoid recalling of witnesses and gave an assurance that the hearing woul...

DAP to take legal action against Umno over ceramah

Image
By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani September 30, 2010 PETALING JAYA, Sept 30 — The DAP said today that it will take legal action against Umno over the Malay ruling party’s plan to hold a ceramah tomorrow in Terengganu on the DAP being anti-Islam. Petaling Jaya Utara DAP MP Tony Pua said the ceramah was part of Umno’s strategy to frighten the Malay community into voting for Barisan Nasional. “There will be a ceramah headlined ‘DAP anti-Islam’ by Umno Besut. Umno wants to use this to frightened Malays in supporting Barisan Nasional. It is malicious and we will get our legal bureau to take all the necessary actions against Umno for holding this event with such a defamatory headline,” he said. Pua (picture) called on Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak to cancel the ceramah after the prime minister’s recent call for a need to marginalise extremists at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Kelantan opposition leader Datuk Md Alwi Che Ahmad is slated as one of the speakers at the cera...

Pakatan confident of Penang Malays’ support in next GE

By Yoges Palaniappan September 30, 2010 Abdul Malik says grassroots Malays have been very receptive towards PR. GEORGE TOWN, Sept 30 — Pakatan Rakyat (PR) is confident that Malay voters in Penang will continue to favour the government in the next general election despite constant attacks from Umno. State executive councillor Abdul Malik Kassim said grassroots Malays have been very receptive towards PR, together with the Chinese and Indian voters, whom he claimed were already convinced that they “have finally seen the light at the end of the tunnel”. "People don’t seem to be bothered with what Umno is doing … with the current awareness level, the majority of them don’t care with what’s happening,” the state religious affairs committee chairman told The Malaysian Insider in an interview. Penang has been embroiled in controversies in recent months following Umno’s allegations that the state government had discriminated against Malay traders and that several mosques in the state had d...

Toke judi kembalikan wang judi — Khalil Idham Lim

Assassination of Najib is underway ?

This is NOT about Ibrahim Ali...may sound like him, act like him... Let us have a fictional moment. There is a fictional crisis within UMNO because this son of Ali wants to use mutilation and beheading as a weapon against non-Malays. And this son of Ali from this fictional TerPerkasa NGO cannot even understand why the non-Malays dislike him! He is just doing what he has been told to do by the powers that be...and getting amply rewarded for it too. A man has to live lah! What will UMNO do with this fictional crisis? Officially UMNO says that what this son of Ali is doing is not entirely wrong (Malaysia is a democracy ma!) but it is not entirely right too (after all the Prime Minister is advocating 1 Malaysia!). So how? Like a pack of wolves that can sense that UMNO has become old and feeble, this Son of Ali and his cohorts are encircling UMNO to see whom amongst the UMNO pack they can take down first. They think it is Najib. Mahathir agrees. Muhyiddin agrees. Under normal circumstance...

Perkasa declares 'war' against Namewee Malay rights pressure group Perkasa has declared 'war' against controversial rapper and film-maker Namewee, following the launch of his debut album last night. Its youth chief Arman Azha Abu Hanifah said members are ready to act as panglima perang dan hulubalang Melayu (Malay warriors), and are willing to tail the rapper throughout his upcoming promotional tour. “We accept news (of his tour) with open arms. If he performs inside (a hall), we will 'perform' outside too,” he said when contacted today. The young performer will kick off the tour tomorrow at the private New Era College in Kajang. It is owned by Chinese education NGO Dong Zong. About 50 Perkasa members had yesterday protested against the album outside the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall where the launch was held. They held up Perkasa banners and a Malaysian flag, while burning posters of Namawee. The group has urged the rapper to apologise to Malays...

Lalang Deja Vu

23 years ago on 27th October, the police rounded up 106 Malaysians and detained them under the ISA. The publishing permits of The Star, Sunday Star, Sin Chew Jit Poh and Watan were withdrawn. All these came about following the questionable decision of an Education Minister to appoint around 100 non-Mandarin speaking senior assistants and headmasters to vernacular Chinese schools. The Chinese saw it as a deliberate attempt to dilute and then destroy vernacular education. Very harsh words were thrown around between UMNO Youth (then headed by Najib, todays PM) and the Chinese based political parties (MCA, Gerakan and DAP) and some NGOs. Guess who was then the Education Minister wakakaka. Anyway, racial tension rose swiftly to the red mark and the police, then reasonably neutral and independent under Tan Sri Haniff, proposed to cancel a mammoth UMNO Youth rally (in response to Chinese protest over the Education Ministrys unprecedented action). The police raised their mounting concerns ove...
