Duo to be tried together on June 14 over engine theft

Judge Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz said the case would be tried jointly with the money laundering case which involved the two accused. The Sessions Court in Petaling Jaya today set three days, from June 14 next year, to hear the case involving Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) sergeant N Tharmendran and businessman K Rajandran Prasad in the theft of two jet engines belonging to RMAF. In setting the dates, judge Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz said the case would be tried jointly with the money laundering case which involved the two accused. Deputy public prosecutors Hamidi Mohd Noh, Syed Feisal Syed Amir, Muhammad Saifuddin Hashim Musaimi and Mohd Haziq Razali appeared for the prosecution, while lawyers T Renuka and Rejender Singh represented Tharmendran and Rajandran Prasad, respectively. azlanLast Dec 17, the Shah Alam High Court dismissed Tharmendran's application for a permanent stay of the charge for abetment in the theft of the two jet engines against him. On Jan 6, Tharmendran, 42, pleaded not guilty to a charge with abetting airman Mohamad Shukri Mohamad Yusop in the theft of the two jet engines from the Material Processing Shed MATRA 1 at the RMAF base in Sungai Besi on April 30, 2008. If found guilty, he could be jailed for up to 10 years and fined. He is charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code while Rajandran Prasad, 38, who is a director of a company, also pleaded not guilty on the same day to a charge with intentionally disposing off the two jet engines at the Subang Industrial Park on April 30, 2008. The charge, under Section 414 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to seven years and fine if found guilty.
