The public should grasp the opportunity to verify their status as voters MCA National Organising Secretary

I urge Malaysians who have already registered themselves as voters to verify their status online or to go to one of the 987 locations nationwide which have been set up. This is to ensure that they will be eligible to vote in the coming general elections.

Voting is the basic right of every citizen which is enshrined in the Federal Constitution. The referendum of the citizens of a country is an important factor in determining a countrys future; hence it must not be taken lightly. Therefore all newly registered voters or those who have changed their voting centers are advised to check their statuses in order to avoid any false data from occurring so that they do not lose their voting rights.

From today onwards till 2 November 2011, the public can head to one of the 987 locations nationwide during office hours to check their voting statuses.

The public can take advantage of this chance to verify their personal information and to enquire on the change of voting stations as this is a good chance to make any amendments to their voting status. This is to avoid any possibilities of names missing from the electoral list which might occur on polling day, and by that time it would be too late to do anything about it.

For those who wish to go online to check their voting status, they may head to this website, http://daftarj.spr.gov.my/NEWDAFTARJ/. They only need to key in their identification card number. It is a very easy and fast process.

I also urge those ! who are above 21 years of age but have yet to register as voters to register themselves as soon as possible, to take the initiative and register themselves to become a voter and to fulfill their civic responsibilities.
