Hishammuddin: Candidate, Location, Situation to Determine Electoral Seat Allocation

ALOR GAJAH, 28 OCTOBER, 2011: The Barisan Nasional (BN) will consider the factors of candidate, location and situation in the allocation of seats to ensure the victory of its candidates in the next general election, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said today.

He said there was no one standard formula to ensure victory because different issues would have to be contended with in facing the general election.

"The important thing is a winning formula (for the BN) in all aspects, and victory will be decided eventually by the people as the voters," he told reporters after opening the Alor Gajah Umno building here.

Also present at the event were Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam, who is also Melaka Umno and BN chairman, and Alor Gajah Umno Division head Datuk Abdul Ghafar Atan.

Hishammuddin, who is the home minister, was asked to comment on the statement by Prime Minister and BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak recently that adjustments would be made to the formula for allocation of seats for the next general election.

Hishammuddin said inputs from the state-level leaders would be taken into account in the selection of candidates, with an understanding among the top leaders of the BN component parties.

He also said that the BN's victory in the general election would also ensure a continuation of the transformation initiated by Najib.

Hishammuddin said he was satisfied with the work done by the Alor Gajah Umno Division in the run-up to the next general election and to maintain the division and Melaka as a BN stronghold.
