Kow Tow, Diplomacy or Survival....
There's so much to learn in life and so little that you can impart, thus people seldom learn from history and continue to repeat similar pattern of mistakes or behaviour.
I remembered back than when we were in secondary schools, Ronnie Liew and me - I was unhappy with MCA in every manner and am an opposition sympathizer. Ronnie was more of a leftist and radical in his approach whereas I am still a democratic idealist.
During my campus days in Universiti Malaya, I was heavily involved as a student activist in the front line leader.
I was offered to study law in the Law Faculty of NUS and also Universiti Malaya. I had opted to read my law in UM as I do not subscribe to the idea of having to serve in a foreign country for a period of years on the basis that we were subsidized in our tertiary education in Singapore. Coupled with my passion for local politics and intent to change the 'discriminative' and 'unfavorable' policies in our national political front, I had decided to stay back to serve the nation towards a more level playing field.
Upon stepping into the UM campus, my first indignation was the fact that we do not have a Chinese Language Society whereas there is BM, Tamil, Kadazan and other language societies available.
Why should the Chinese be discriminated again? It was very easy to say that we do not want to be racial but it is inevitable when the entire atmosphere and culture is racial and religious in nature.
To cut a long story short, we had approached many MCA leaders for help and finally succeeded in forming the Mandarin Language Society after much hassle with the help and guidance of the MCA leaders. The Chinese language Society was banned as a result of alleged communist infiltration and there was a parli! amentary white paper tabled.
We had formed the Mandarin Language Society after much hassles and we did do lots of 'kow tow' and knock many doors to obtain the approval finally.
It is through this process that I have learned and realized that DAP was merely kicking up dust ; blowing hot air but contributed little to resolve or provide immediate solutions or any softening to the sufferings or hardships of circumstantial victims.
It was through the process that I realized that we were rather harsh and unfair to MCA when we tagged them as 'kow tow' or dogs. That is when I realized that diplomacy can take us further and help resolve many problems that may be inevitable or inherited.
Secondly, I begin to understand that complicated problems cannot be solved by putting the blame on somebody or anybody.
Talking about diplomacy, I was having a discussion this afternoon with some friends and it was propounded that our Prime Minister, Dato Seri Najib Razak had finally succumbed to the dictates or terms of USA or Singapore.
The argument is that Tun Mahathir being 'recalcitrant' had fought against 'Uncle Sam' and the little giant down south. He had scraped the bottom of the barrel to come out with funds to inspire the nation's economic independence and refusing to submit to terms deemed unfavorable and a form of economic colonisation.
On the other hand, ally turned enemy anWar had turned A! merica f riendly and won favors therein. Tun Mahathir was able to fend off economic and political aggressions by utilizing the reserves and ammunition available to maintain the welfare of the people and the nation's economic growth.
Come a point where we cannot hold on the fort....come a point where our survival is at stake....comes a point when reality strikes...ego must be put aside !
Did DS Najib enter into deals with Singapore with stronger economic bargaining power?
Did DS Najib met President Obama with stronger political chips? Is America now shifting their alliance to a less AnWar friendly direction?
If anWar can be friendly with America, why can't DS Najib too?
If Tun Mahathir have a choice to fight or fend off any 'amorous' approach, does DS Najib have the same choice?
Is this a case of divide and rule succeeding in bringing the nation to their knees ?
Whenever MCA runs to the Prime Minister to negotiate or obtain political concessions, MCA was taunted as 'kow tow' like dogs to Umno whereas MCA was merely doing their diplomatic bit with the Prime Minister.
Are we Malaysian as a nation now 'kow tow' to America or to Singapore ?
For survival ???
